The Supreme Court has observed agencies have been acting beyond their mandate. The apex court made this observation while hearing the Mehrangate scam.The attorney general said government has no objection to making public Assad Durrani and Nasirullah Babar’s secret statements.The hearing was conducted by three-member SC bench headed by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry. AG said the government needed more time to make those statements public as secretary interior was abroad. CJP said the written order to make public the said statements would be given in the next hearing.Yunis Habib also submitted his affidavit in response to that of Assad Durrani’s new statement. Yunis Habib has maintained in his statement he had no intention to malign anyone or give a dramatic twist to the issue. He also claimed he has nothing to do with any political party.He said he met about five times with former COAS Aslam Beg, while he was introduced to Brigadier Hamid Saeed and Colonel Akbar as ISI officers.The court also asked Yunis Habib to be careful while talking to the media about his correspondence with the CJP. The court also asked Assad Durrani to hire a lawyer as he has admitted to distributing certain amounts to politicians. He was also told he distributed money as DG ISI, how could he disassociate the agency from the whole affair. During the hearing the court also took notice of the misuse of the IB’s secret funds.The court also said Shoaib Saddal had also remained IB’s Chief and he could tell about the use of funds of the agency. The audio tape of Nawaz Sharif’s charge about money given to Asif Zardari and other PPP leaders was also submitted to the court.
