Summary Istanbul Mayor Dr Kadir Tobpas had a tour of historical places in Lahore.

The mayor, accompanied by a delegation, visited Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum. He earlier inaugurated campus of a girl’s school.The mayor praised Pakistan’s national poet Allama Iqbal and said that he was an important personality of the Islamic world.When the Turkish mayor reached the mausoleum, Commissioner Lahore Jawad Rafiq, Special assistant to Chief Minister Salman Rafique and Commandant Sutlej Brigadier Zahid Ahmad received him. Guard of honour was paid to the guests.Government College University bestowed upon him an honourary PhD degree for his services to strengthen Pak-Turk friendship.Dr Tobpas, who is on a two-day official visit to Lahore, was awarded the honorary degree at an impressive ceremony at Bokhari Auditorium of GCU.Members of the Turkish delegation, Education Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, vice chancellors of King Edward Medical University (KEMU) and University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, academia, and members of provincial cabinet were also present at the ceremony.On the second day of his two-day visit, the mayor of Istanbul also paid a visit to Shahi Qila while the campus of girl’s school was inaugurated at Raiwind Road.He later inaugurated interchange named after him on Khayaban-e-Jinnah Road.The mayor also paid a visit to the Blue Mosque being built on Multan Road on the pattern of Sultan Shah mosque, an epitome of Turkish architecture.
