Celebrating the colours of Rohi: Khawaja Fareed Peace Mela

(Dunya News) – The rich colours of the Rohi culture were celebrated during the Khawaja Fareed Peace Mela in Liaquatpur tehsil’s Jhok Farid.

The peace festival drew a large number of visitors.

Locally known as Rohi, magnificent dunes near Bahawalpur – the Cholistan desert sparkled with a lively and colourful mela that celebrated the local culture through food, games and traditional dances.

The Rohi mela highlighted the culture of Cholistan and featured many local games including tent pegging and horse riding. Decorated camels with embroidered saddles also stole the show during the festival.

The mela began with a flag hoisting ceremony and hosted many people where locals took part in traditional dance ‘jhoomar’, performed on the beat of the dhol. Rohi’s traditional food ‘choori’ was also distributed among the visitors.
