Summary Nine suspects and senior urologist held

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Anti-Corruption Circle, Islamabad Zone, has uncovered an organised illegal organ trafficking network following a targeted operation in the capital city.

It led to the arrest of a senior medical practitioner and nine other individuals allegedly involved in unlawful kidney trade and transplant activities.

According to officials, the raid was conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into kidney smuggling and illegal transplant procedures being carried out under the cover of medical treatment. During the operation, FIA teams exposed what they described as an active network engaged in the illegal removal, purchase and transplantation of human kidneys.

Among those arrested is a prominent urologist along with a staff member of a private hospital, while the remaining suspects are believed to be linked to the broader trafficking network facilitating the illicit trade.

Acting on intelligence, FIA officials raided a private hospital in Islamabad where illegal kidney removal procedures were reportedly being performed. Investigators stated that medical operations were in progress at the time of the raid, indicating the network was active and operational within hospital premises.

During the intervention, the concerned doctor and hospital employee were taken into custody on the spot. Officials also detained several individuals present at the facility who are suspected of being connected to the illegal transplant activity.

FIA authorities confirmed that the arrested individuals are part of a wider network allegedly involved in the organised trafficking of kidneys, including recruitment of donors, facilitation of illegal surgeries, and coordination with medical personnel.

Preliminary findings suggest that the group operated through covert arrangements, using medical infrastructure to carry out procedures outside the legal framework governing organ transplantation in Pakistan.

The suspects were shifted to the FIA office for further interrogation, where investigators are examining financial transactions, communication records and potential links to other facilitators involved in the network.

Officials stated that further raids are underway to apprehend additional members connected to the gang, with investigators expanding the scope of the inquiry to identify the full extent of the illegal operations.

Authorities have indicated that more arrests are expected as the investigation progresses, with focus placed on dismantling the wider structure supporting the illegal organ trade.
