Summary Boris Johnson's image standing alongside empty grocery shelves digitally altered

(Reuters) – An image of British Prime Minister (PM) Boris Johnson standing in front of empty supermarket shelves has been digitally altered and was first shared by a comedic Twitter account – but some users have been duped into thinking it’s real.

“Empty shelves worried face,” one social media user who shared the image on Facebook said.

Another added in the comments: “Brexit’s going well mate.”

However, the original photograph, which was published in the Daily Mirror and Metro on Aug. 21, shows Johnson was standing beside a full shelf of British meat.

On Aug. 22, a satirical Twitter account with the handle ‘IAmHappyToast’ shared the doctored image, prompting discussion about food shortages in the United Kingdom.
