AIOU to set up its regional campus in Chitral

Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad (AIOU) will set up at its regional campus in Chitral next year to provide ‘state-of-the art’ educational facilities to the students of far-flung region.This was announced by Vice chancellor AIOU Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmad Sangi during his five-day visit to Chitral.The campus will comprise facilities of video conferences, a well-equipped workshop, training and a study center as well as examination. He met senior officers of the district and sought their support for early establishment of the campus.He said the university will establish necessary infrastructure from within its own resources if the district administration provides land.In order to facilitate the students of religious madaras, he assured that the AIOU will consider bring necessary changes in the existing syllabus of Islamiat subject, with a new patron so the students could be able to positively contribute to the development of the society, in line with the Islamic teaching.The AIOU, he added could also introduce subjects on tourism, handicraft, live stock for the benefit of the local people.The Vice chancellor also visited Kalash valley and met local students at Bumborat. He assured them for appointing a separate regional coordinator for Kalash valley to facilitate them, making available admission forms, date-sheet and other information.The AIOU, he said will also be prepared to establish a study centre in the Kalash Valley if local people come forward to provide them a suitable land. He was warmly welcomed by both Muslim and Kalash people on his arrival in the valley.An education conference was also held at Commerce College, where Vice chancellor was the chief guest .The speakers on the occasion thanked him for paying visit to Chitral region.Dr. Sangi announced that AIOU will soon increase examination centers at Chitral to facilitate their students at their door-step while six regional coordinators would be appointed at different parts of Chitral.A large number of teachers tutors and students participated in education conference.
