Edu minister on visit to Bradford schools

Pakistan education minister Mian Abdul Waheed visited staff from three Bradford schools to learn lessons about classroom life in the UK.He was joined by Madiga Javid Noori from the British Council in Islamabad for a meeting with teachers from Laisterdyke Business and Enterprise College, Lapage Primary School and Queensbury School, which have been involved in a three-year project linking schools across the world.The minister visited the city to support the British Council’s Connecting Classrooms exchange programme, which has seen teachers from the Bradford schools twice visit schools in Dadyal, Pakistan.As part of the scheme, their counterparts from Pakistan have been shadowing teachers from each of the schools and taking lessons to learn more about the teaching styles and techniques used in the UK. They were due to fly home last night.Rahila Hussain, teacher and enterprise coordinator at Queensbury School, said the minister had been keen to hear about the success of the project.“We’ve all got a lot to learn and a lot to give - it’s all about sharing the best practices,” she added.“It was a high-profile visit and that just goes to show the importance of the project and the success of it.“He was really keen to hear about what we are doing, how we are doing it and how successful we have been to look at taking it back to Pakistan.“It’s been fantastic and our links with the schools won’t end when the project ends.”
