Summary False recovery cases were claimed by police according to report by security agencies
LAHORE (Daily Dunya) – About 250 kidnapping for ransom occurrences were recorded in the provincial capital of Punjab, Lahore in the past year. These kidnapping included innocent children, renowned traders, industrialists and even Pakistan-born British nationals.
While seven of the kidnapped people were freed after paying ransom amount, police made attempts to take credit through multiple press conferences. Police not only failed to recover kidnapped people but was also unable to catch or find clue of the kidnappers.
The rate of criminal activities including kidnappings has skyrocketed in numerous areas in which Iqbal Town Division and City Division stand in the first place whereas Cantt Division and Sadar Division take second and third places, respectively.
This year from January to December, 296 cases of kidnapping and kidnapping for ransom occurred according to annual report of alleged flawed performance by police which was sent to Punjab Interior Ministry by the security agencies.
However, 42 cases were proved false. About 250 kidnapping cases are under investigation in which not a single case is close to getting resolved.
Police claimed of tracing 4 kidnapping for ransom cases and announced the success in multiple press conferences, however, security agencies’ report has revealed flawed effort by police. The report claims that none of the recovered kidnappings were real.
The report suggests that all four recoveries were made by payment of ransom by family of the kidnapped. Among these cases, huge ransom amounts were paid including that of Salman Pervez from Iqbal Town who was freed after paying a ransom of 5.5 crore.
Other cases include, son of Kamran Hafeez from Shadbagh who was freed after paying ransom of 10 lac. 3 lac were paid by Muhammad Ali for the recovery of his 13-year-old sister in another Shadbagh case.
