LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Food Authority on Saturday has foiled an attempt of supplying more than 1200kg substandard meat in Lahore and arrested as many as two suspects.
The development has come in during efforts by the provincial authorities to nab criminals involved in selling of low-quality and adulterated meat.
Sources told that that the authorities on a tip off received stopped a car and a mini truck at a checkpost near EME Society and recovered unhygienic meat.
Security officers have also apprehended drivers Tariq and Akbar and shifted them to police station for further investigation while the samples have been sent to laboratory for test.
On the other hand, Punjab Food Authority has assured to raid the area from where the meat was being smuggled.
Earlier, at least 200kg meat was seized by law enforcers in Lahore’s Thokar Niaz Baig area. Livestock authorities said that the dead animals’ meat was brought to Lahore from out of station. As many as seven culprits were arrested in the operation.
In another operation, authorities seized stock freezed at a store in Karol Ghati area. Officials said that the meat was stored against hygienic rules.
