Half centuries from Bakthiyar Palekar and Swapnil Patil helped the United Arab Emirates reach 361-8 on the first day of its ICC Intercontinental Cup against defending champion Afghanistan on Wednesday.After opting to bat first at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Palekar opened with 76. Patil and skipper Khurram Khan then added 98 runs for the fourth wicket. Patil (61) and Amjad Ali (49) added a further 44 runs for the fifth wicket.Dawlat Adran (4-74) and Samiullah Shenwari (2-79) had the best bowling figures for Afghanistan.The sixth edition of the Intercontinental Cup also includes Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Namibia, Canada, and Kenya. Ireland is top of the table.
