Summary Former test batsman Ijaz Ahmed has been appointed assistant coach of Pakistan.

Pakistan Cricket Board said in a statement on Thursday that Ahmed has been appointed on the request of team management and will travel the team to Zimbabwe next week.Ahmed last year was part of Waqar Younis coaching team during the Asia Cup and the tour of England.Ahmed, 42, was famous for his hard-hitting batting before retiring from test cricket in 2001.He scored 3,315 runs in 60 test matches which included 12 centuries.He also played 250 one-day internationals and made 6,564 runs with 10 centuries.The Pakistan team is due to leave for Zimbabwe Aug. 25 for a one-off test match, two Twenty20 games and five ODIs.
