A lot of cricket fans in India were not happy with the new jersey. They mainly complained about the new official team sponsor. While opposing the selection of Chinese mobile company as the main sponsor, some Indian fans expressed their point saying Star looked better because it is an Indian company.

The disapproval was also inspired by the Make In India initiative launched by existing Prime Minister Narendra Modi which encourages people to prefer the products manufactured in India.
Meanwhile, all disapprovals aside, BCCI and Oppo have signed a five-year team sponsorship deal worth INR 1,079 crore. It is reportedly worth five times greater than the previous deal with Star India.
