MIRPUR (Web Desk) – Dhaka Dynamites (DD) put up a wonderful show in the final of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2016-17 and beaten Rajshahi Kings (RK) convincingly.
Earlier, Rajshahi Kings had won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Batting first, Dhaka Dynamites succeeded in achieving an above average score of 159 for the loss of 9 wickets. Big names like Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell and Captain Shakib Al Hasan failed to contribute much on the grand finale, however, Evin Lewis and Kumar Sangakkara played responsible innings and took the team total to 159 by scoring 45 and 36 runs respectively.
Farhad Reza was the stand out bowler of Rajshahi Kings taking 3 wickets for 28 runs in his 4 overs.
Chasing 160 in reply, Rajshahi Kings started their innings in a cautious manner and the top order played too many dot deliveries which later pressurized the middle order. As a result of this pressure, the Kings collapsed from 62-1 to 98-8, losing 7 wickets for just 36 runs.
Kings were eventually bowled out in the 18th over for 103 runs.
Mominul Haque and Sabbir Rahman were the top scorers of Rajshahi Kings who scored 27 and 26 runs apiece.
Abu Jayed, Shakib Al Hasan and Sunzamul Islam from Dhaka Dynamites shared two wickets each.
Kumar Sangakkara was awarded with the man of the match award for his late hitting that enabled the Dynamites to score a decent total of 159.
