MUMBAI (Web Desk) – Umpire Paul Reiffel was injured due to an outfield throw on day one of the Mumbai Test match played between India and England.
According to details, Reiffel was officiating the Test match when in the 49th over, Keaton Jennings played the ball towards square leg on Ravichandran Ashwin’s ball.
The ball went to Bhuvneshwar Kumar who threw it back to Cheteshwar Pujara, standing between Paul Reiffel and the stumps.
The throw did not happen to be powerful enough to reach Pujara and hit Pual Reiffel on the sensitive area of the back of his head.
Play remained stopped for a short time and Reiffel was sent to hospital where he underwent a scan. The reports showed no serious injury but the umpire was advised one-day rest by doctors.
Later on, the third umpire Marais Erasmus came on the field and umpired day one of fourth Test on behalf of Paul Reiffel.
