Summary Had security concerns regarding playing against India at Dharamsala says PCB Chairman

LAHORE (Dunya News, Web Desk) – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shahryar Khan while addressing a press conference on Wednesday stated that the board appreciates International Cricket Council’s (ICC) to change the venue to the T20 match to be played between India and Pakistan from Dharamsala to Kolkata, reported Dunya News.

PCB Chairman further added that despite the move made by the ICC, Pakistani team shall only visit India after complete security assurance from the Indian government.

Shahryar said that the board and the Pakistani government had reservations related to the safety of the players while playing at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. Recommendation regarding shifting the match venue was also made by the three-member security team that visited India to check the safety arrangement of the players at Dharamsala, said Shahryar Khan.

He said that he had a chat with Board for Control of Cricket in India’s (BCCI) president Shashank Manohar in the morning, who was also of the view that the match should not be played at Dharamsala because of security concerns.

Shahryar added that various political parties of India including the Aam Aadmi Party gave statements against Pakistan and opposed the idea of both countries playing cricket against each other.

PCB Chairman added that the Foreign Ministry sources stated that until foolproof security assurance to the Pakistani side is not granted by the Indian government, the team will not visit India.

The security team that visited India also mentioned in its report that was presented to the Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif from the Interior Ministry that playing at Dharamsala is not safe for the Pakistani team and that the match venue be shifted elsewhere.
