Euro falls early as debt crisis talks grind on

The euro is falling against the dollar and other currencies after tense weekend negotiations between European leaders failed to produce clear plans for solving the debt crisis there.Leaders of France, Germany and Greeces European lenders were meeting Monday to hammer out a scheme. They aim to prop up struggling banks, erase part of Greeces debt to prevent a messy default and prevent the credit panic from spreading to other nations.Leaders signaled last week that there would be no final deal before Wednesday. However, traders were disheartened by the groups admission that an earlier plan would not be enough to solve the problem.The euro fell to $1.3851 in early New York trading from $1.3948 early Monday morning. It remains slightly below the late-Friday rate of $1.3893.
