Assets of banking system reach Rs 71 trillion: SBP report

Summary The State Bank of Pakistan has released quarterly performance review of the banking system.

According to the report, the assets of the banking system have reached Rs 71 trillion during the October-December quarter of 2010 while deposits have been increased by 8.5 percent.There was an increase of Rs 2.61 trillion in bank deposits while pre-tax profit increased by 23 percent to reach Rs 111 billion. However, banks accumulated Rs 53.7 billion of fresh non-performing loans in October-December 2010. The private sector was given Rs 196 billion loans while the volume of investment by banks reached Rs 21 trillion during the period.
