The government has decided to increase electricity tariff by two percent from December, 2010. According to sources, the recent hike is being made under the terms of international financial institutions and power subsidy will have to be ended gradually. The notification to increase electricity tariff is expected to be issued in the first week of December. Electricity has been increased by 26 from October 2009 to November 2010. While 46 percent hike would be made till June 2010. After this 2 percent hike, unit will cost Rs 9 while consumers using over 700 units will have to pay Rs 13 per unit.
