Poultry prices go up Rs 15 in Karachi

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Poultry prices on Monday has risen by at least Rs 15 taking total of one kilogram (Kg) to Rs 210.

Pakistan Poultry Association has stated that one kilogram chicken is available now for Rs 210 in Karachi. While price of live-weight chicken has risen by Rs 4 settling at Rs 128 per Kg.

In Lahore, live-weight chicken is being sold at Rs 100 per Kg while meat for Rs 165 per Kg.

Furthermore, in Quetta and Peshawar, prices of live-weight bird and meat are Rs 165 per Kg and Rs 270 per Kg respectively. The association spokesperson said that increase in poultry demand has caused the revision of prices.

Earlier in March, the prices had plunged sharply due to surplus poultry in the country. At the time, chicken was available for Rs 130 per Kg.

The poultry association’s spokesperson and ex-chairman Abdul Basit had said that the farmers were rendering great losses due to more than sufficient stock available. He termed the situation a crisis for poultry breeders. Basit had said that the breeding cost was quite higher than the money recovered.
