Shanghai stocks up by lunch on stimulus hopes

Summary Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index eased 0.20 percent, or 45.64 points, to 23,021.73

HONG KONG (AFP) - Hopes that China will announce a fresh batch of stimulus measures lifted Shanghai stocks Monday morning after data showed the economy grew in July-September at its slowest rate for six years.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.50 percent, or 17.06 points, to 3,408.41.

The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China s second exchange, rose 0.46 percent, or 9.05 points, to 1,976.01.

But Hong Kong s Hang Seng Index eased 0.20 percent, or 45.64 points, to 23,021.73.
