Pakistan, Norway sign 75mln NOK agreement

Summary Norway and Pakistan on Friday signed an agreement worth 75 million Norwegian Krone (NOK).

The amount would be spent on educational development programme titled “Basic Education Improvement Programme (BEIP) Phase-II”.Javed Iqbal, Secretary Economic Affairs Division and Cecilie Landsverk, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway signed the agreement.Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Economic Affairs Division thanked the Norwegian Government for its assistance and appreciated the fact that BEIP Phase-II focused on girls education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.The Ambassador highlighted that Norway had been providing assistance for education in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since along and hoped that the two sides would continue to work with each other for bringing about an improvement in education in Pakistan.BEIP Phase-II would be a three year programme with the aim to improve educational standard and facilities in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.The provincial Department of Elementary & Secondary Education would act as the implementing agency and the Norwegian grant funds would be utilized to establish fully equipped and digitalized libraries with trained staff in 300 schools, improve facilities for concept based co-curricular activities in 25 schools, upgrade 100 girls schools and construct 100 additional classrooms on need basis.
