The Supreme Court taking a suo moto notice case about corruption and deficit of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) has asked to submit its internal and external audit report of 2008-2009. The Ministry of Industries and Production, FIA and Steel Mills former and current chairman were also asked to submit written statements. A bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took the action on a published report about PSM. PSM spokesman admitted that due to economic crunch, the Steel Mills suffered deficit of Rs 22 billions in a year. After the initial hearing, the chief justice asked to submit the audit report. Asking the DG FIA to submit the corruption report, the Steel Mills current chairman M M Usmani and former chairman Naeem Aftab were ordered to submit written statements. Next hearing of the case would be held on October 16.
