ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi says there is a zero-tolerance policy regarding overbilling by power distribution companies across the country.

He emphasised that overbilling would not be tolerated under any circumstances. Naqvi has instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take stern action against any official found involved in overbilling.

In addition to combating overbilling, minister Naqvi has called for a swift crackdown on power theft. He has directed the FIA officers to demonstrate best performance in tackling overbilling and power theft cases.

Condemning overbilling, the minister said it's a grave injustice to the public. He pledged to provide relief to the masses with an assurance that those involved in issuing inflated bills would be brought to justice.

The interior minister highlighted the importance of addressing power theft and said the FIA officers would take action against the corrupt across the country, especially in areas of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to effectively control power theft.

A few days earlier, Naqvi revealed the figures about overbilling and promised to continue crackdown on power theft. He told a press conference that not only affluent power and state consumers but also poor households were a victim of overbilling.

He revealed that the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) had charged an additional 830 million units – a practice to hide the failure to check line losses and power theft and burden the people who face the consequences of an inefficient system.
