Special bench of the Supreme Court has been formed to resume hearing of controversial case.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News): The Supreme Court will take up hearing of controversial Memogate case against former ambassador of Pakistan to the United States Hussain Haqqani on Monday.

A nine-member larger bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will hear the controversial Memogate case.

The other judges include Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Muhammad Athar Saeed and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed.

Earlier, on Feb 12 during the last hearing, the SC had directed Secretary Khawaja Siddiq Akbar to provide foolproof security to Hussain Haqqani, Pakistan’s former ambassador to the US, upon his return to the country.

The SC had expressed its dissatisfaction over the Interior Secretary’s absence. The bench ordered the Interior Secretary to appear in court and inform it on the steps that were taken for Haqqani’s return.

The Interior Secretary was also asked to talk to Haqqani regarding his arrival to Pakistan, his residence and his security concerns, and to hold talks with the government and law enforcement agencies on the matter.

The case was brought to light by Mansoor Ijaz, a US citizen of Pakistani origin, when he accused Haqqani of writing a memo to US army chief Admiral Mike Mullen, seeking the country’s help against a possible military coup in Pakistan.
