Summary Saudi authorities have handed over the new Kiswah of the Holy Kaaba to its custodian ahead of its scheduled replacement on 1st Muharram, marking the start of the new Hijri year.

MAKKAH (Dunya News) - The Kiswah, the sacred covering of the Holy Kaaba, will be replaced on the 1st of Muharram this year, continuing the annual tradition observed at the beginning of the Islamic New Year.

A ceremony was held on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques during which the new Kiswah of the Holy Kaaba was formally handed over to the custodian responsible for the Kaaba.

According to established practice, the Kiswah is now replaced at the start of the Hijri year on 1st Muharram. A special and spiritually significant ceremony will be organized to mark the installation of the new covering.

The Kiswah, which adorns the Holy Kaaba, is manufactured using hundreds of kilograms of silk along with silver and gold-plated threads. The intricate process reflects the importance and reverence attached to one of Islam’s most sacred symbols.
