ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has issued a warning to WhatsApp users with regard to hacking risk and suggested immediate steps to avoid unexpected situations.

The National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in an advisory issued to WhatsApp users said, “If you lose access to your account or suspect that someone else is using it, take immediate steps to re-register the account.”

The NCCIA, while informing about immediate steps in case of hacking, said, “Uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp, enter your phone number to log in, on which you will receive a 6-digit code via SMS, enter it immediately.”

“As soon as you enter the code, your WhatsApp will be immediately logged out from the hacker's mobile because WhatsApp can only be active on one mobile at a time.

“Don't be afraid to wait 7 days because if the hacker has turned on "two-step verification" and you don't know the PIN, WhatsApp may ask you to wait 7 days,” the NCCIA said.

It added, “In such a case, do not worry, by the time you have entered the SMS code, the hacker has logged out, during this waiting period no one can use your account or read the messages.”
