The franchise announced the appointment through its official social media accounts, welcoming Misbah as a prominent addition to its coaching staff.
Misbah brings considerable experience in international cricket and T20 leagues. He captained Islamabad United to their maiden Pakistan Super League (PSL) title in the tournament’s inaugural edition in 2016.
Across his T20 international career, Misbah played 162 matches, scoring 3,491 runs at an average of 33.89, including one century.
In Test cricket, he led Pakistan to 26 victories in 56 matches. Under his leadership, Pakistan also rose to the top of the ICC Test rankings in 2016.
Earlier this year, Misbah worked as batting coach for Peshawar Zalmi, who won their first PSL title in nine years in the 11th edition of the tournament.
Reacting to his appointment, Misbah said he was looking forward to joining the Royals and experiencing the enthusiasm of cricket supporters in Nepal.
“I am very excited to be joining the Sudurpaschim Royals as the head coach for the upcoming season. I have heard a lot about the passion for the cricket in Nepal. I am really looking forward to being part of that atmosphere and working with the talented group of players,” he said.
The third edition of the Nepal Premier League is scheduled to take place from October 26 to November 21.
Sudurpaschim Royals finished at the top of the league standings in each of the first two editions and qualified for both finals, but fell short of winning the title on both occasions.
