Summary Tarar said relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were reaching new heights, adding that there were vast opportunities for cooperation in media and culture
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to further strengthen cooperation in information, broadcasting, media and cultural sectors, with a focus on promoting tourism and people-to-people contacts.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki's successor, Raje bin Tami Al-Buqami, in Islamabad on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Tarar welcomed the Saudi envoy and congratulated him on his appointment to Pakistan.
The information minister said relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were reaching new heights, adding that there were vast opportunities for cooperation in media, culture, drama, music, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
He said the relationship between the two countries was rooted in generations of historical, religious and public ties and extended beyond diplomatic and political cooperation.
Tarar also highlighted the importance of the defence cooperation agreement between the two countries, describing it as a reflection of their strong strategic partnership.
Appreciating Saudi Arabia's transformation under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, he cited tourism development in AlUla and the modern presentation of Diriyah's historical and cultural heritage as examples of the kingdom's vision.
The minister stressed the need to introduce Pakistani dramas to Saudi audiences, saying they reflected family values, eastern traditions and Islamic culture.
He also proposed exchanges of delegations comprising writers, poets, artists, musicians, media representatives and digital content creators to strengthen cultural ties.
Referring to Pakistani national Farman Ali Khan, who sacrificed his life while rescuing people during the 2009 floods in Jeddah, Tarar said he had set a remarkable example of love and brotherhood between the two nations.
Highlighting Pakistan's tourism potential, the minister invited Saudi media representatives, tourists and digital influencers to visit the country's scenic destinations and historical sites.
He also called for cooperation to counter misinformation and negative propaganda, strengthen fact-checking mechanisms and produce content highlighting the shared cultural values of both countries.
For this purpose, Tarar proposed establishing a joint working group comprising focal persons and technical teams from both sides.
The minister also briefed the Saudi ambassador on the use of social media influencers to promote public awareness and highlight key government initiatives. He said a social media post about the Prime Minister's Fuel Relief Scheme had received more than eight million views.
Speaking on the occasion, Saudi Ambassador Raje bin Tami Al-Buqami described the strong fraternal ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, based on mutual trust, respect and political and military cooperation, as a source of pride.
He emphasised the need to further expand cooperation between the two countries in cultural events, arts, literature and media.
