NEW YORK (Dunya News) – Pakistan strongly rejected India's position on Jammu and Kashmir during a session of the United Nations Security Council, stating that the disputed territory is neither an integral part of India nor an internal matter.
Responding to the Indian representative, Pakistan's Counsellor to the United Nations, Saima Saleem, said it was India itself that had taken the Kashmir dispute to the UN Security Council and was now disregarding the council's resolutions. She said human rights violations and repression continue in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Saima Saleem said India's claims of promoting peace were "ironic," adding that New Delhi's denial could not alter the internationally recognised status of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
Referring to the Indus Waters Treaty, she said India's decision to suspend the agreement violated international law, stressing that the waters of the Indus River are a source of life and should never be used as a weapon of war.
The Pakistani diplomat also alleged that terrorism-linked networks associated with India had expanded beyond the region and claimed that Hindutva ideology had institutionalised Islamophobia as a state policy in India.
