Summary Supreme Judicial Council dismissed a complaint against IHC Judge Muhammad Asif over alleged influence in a hit-and-run case.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Supreme Judicial Council has dismissed a complaint against Justice Muhammad Asif of the Islamabad High Court, ending proceedings over allegations that he used his judicial position to influence a hit-and-run case involving his underage son.
The complaint stemmed from a fatal accident on December 2 last year, when a speeding black SUV, allegedly driven by Justice Asif’s son, struck two girls riding a scooter near the Pakistan National Council of the Arts. Both victims died in the incident.
Following the accident, the judge’s son was taken into police custody. On December 6, 2025, a judicial magistrate ordered his release after the victims’ families pardoned him in court under provisions related to qisas and diyat under Pakistani law.
The council, which is constitutionally empowered to investigate the conduct of superior court judges and recommend removal in cases of proven misconduct, reviewed the matter during its May 14 meeting and later informed complainant retired Colonel Inamur Rahim of its decision.
However, the SJC did not publicly disclose detailed reasons behind dismissing the complaint.
In the complaint filed on December 29, retired Colonel Inamur Rahim alleged that Justice Asif misused his office to influence both the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
The complaint further alleged that state machinery was used to pressure the victims’ families into reaching a settlement, claiming bail was granted to the judge’s son through closed-door proceedings after court hours to present the case as compoundable.
With the complaint dismissed, proceedings against Justice Asif have formally concluded and he will continue serving on the Islamabad High Court bench.
The case has drawn comparisons with a similar 2022 hit-and-run incident in Islamabad involving the daughter of a senior judge, where an SUV allegedly ran over two people near Sohan Bridge on Islamabad Expressway.
In that case, police later informed the court that the vehicle was being used by Supreme Court Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed. In February 2025, a local court acquitted Shanzay Malik after accepting her acquittal plea.
