PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has proposed allocating Rs9.5 billion for the establishment of model schools in its 2026-27 budget.

According to budget documents, a plan has been prepared to provide free, high-quality education based on the standards of international educational institutions. Under the initiative, 72 schools across the province will be upgraded to model school status.

The documents state that the project will include 31 boys' schools and 31 girls' schools. The model schools will be equipped with modern IT and science laboratories, swimming pools and other facilities meeting international standards.

Students from grades six to 12 enrolled in the model schools will be provided with free accommodation, meals, education, textbooks and stipends.

According to the proposal, each model school will admit 50 talented and high-achieving students. Work on the project is expected to begin in July 2026, and its completion in September 2027.

Education department officials said the initiative has been included in the provincial budget as a major step towards improving the education sector.
