Summary Pakistan will participate in Russia’s SPIEF 2026 with a high-level delegation as Islamabad seeks investment opportunities and stronger economic ties with Moscow.
ST PETERSBURG (Dunya News) — A high-level Pakistani delegation is set to participate in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2026), one of Russia’s largest and most influential economic gatherings, which begins on Wednesday in the historic Russian city.
The four-day forum, running from 3 to 6 June, is expected to bring together government officials, business leaders, investors and economic policymakers from more than 130 countries to discuss global economic challenges and emerging opportunities.
Pakistan’s delegation will be led by Federal Minister for Energy (Petroleum Division) Ali Pervaiz Malik and will include Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, senior diplomatic officials and representatives from Pakistan’s trade and investment sectors.
The forum’s agenda covers a wide range of subjects including global trade, energy security, investment, digital technology, artificial intelligence, industrial development, transport infrastructure, food security and international economic cooperation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to address the forum’s main plenary session, alongside participation from ministers, investors, corporate executives and representatives of international organisations from around the world.
Pakistan’s participation is being viewed as an important opportunity to strengthen economic and trade relations between Islamabad and Moscow. Officials are expected to hold meetings with Russian authorities, investors and business representatives to explore greater cooperation in energy, petroleum, industry, trade and investment.
Observers note that Pakistan is currently focusing on attracting foreign investment into sectors including energy, minerals, infrastructure and manufacturing, while simultaneously seeking new avenues for economic cooperation with Russia.
Analysts believe participation in such international forums offers Pakistan direct access not only to Russian stakeholders but also to investors and businesses from multiple countries, potentially supporting investment growth, export expansion and broader economic partnerships.
This year’s forum theme, “Practical Dialogue: Towards a Sustainable Future”, will focus on addressing global economic uncertainties while exploring future growth opportunities.
