At least 72 Afghan Taliban killed, over 120 injured as Pakistan responds to unprovoked border fire

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Army responded effectively and swiftly to unprovoked aggression from Afghan Taliban regime, and under Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, killed 72 Taliban and injured more than 120.

The Pakistan Army completely destroyed 16 posts of the Afghan Taliban, capturing five. In an effective counter-attack, more than 36 tanks were destroyed, artillery guns and APCs of the Afghan Taliban were destroyed, and the Afghan Taliban fled, abandoning many posts and hideouts.

The Pakistan Air Force also carried out a series of attacks on the Afghan Taliban, completely destroying the Afghan battalion and sector headquarters, destroying the ammunition depot, and hoisting the national flag at seven Afghan posts.

PM’s spokesperson on Foreign Media Mosharraf Zaidi said that in response to unprovoked Afghan attacks, Pakistani counter strikes have been authorised and several iterations of these strikes have been conducted.

“A total of 72 Afghan Taliban combatants have been terminated, more than 120 have been injured. Sixteen Afghan Taliban posts have been destroyed and seven Afghan Taliban posts have been captured,” he said.

“A large ammunition depot, an Afghan Taliban battalion headquarters and an Afghan Taliban sector headquarters have been destroyed,” he said.

“So far, more than 36 tanks, artillery guns and armoured personnel carriers have been destroyed,” he said.

“Further counter-attacks are going to take place in keeping with Pakistan’s resolve to be immediate and effective in response to any aggression,” he added.

According to security sources, the Afghan Taliban unsuccessfully attempted to attack with quadcopters, but the security forces shot down all the quadcopters.

Security sources further said that Afghan Taliban posts are being targeted selectively. After being defeated by the Pakistani army, the Afghan Taliban have started attacking civilian populations.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar reiterated the information provided by PM’s Spokesperson on Foreign Media Mosharraf Zaidi about the operation against the Afghan Taliban.

“Further counter attacks are ongoing. Every aggression will be firmly countered,” he said.

ARMED FORCES CAPABLE TO CRUSH AGGRESSION: PM

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said that Pakistan armed forces possess full capability to crush any aggressive designs.

Reacting to Afghanistan’s unprovoked firing on multiple locations across the border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PM Shehbaz said that the people of Pakistan and the armed forces are always ready to protect the country’s security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Shehbaz Sharif stated that the Pakistan armed forces are determined not to allow any threat to the country’s peace and security under any circumstances, and they possess full capability to crush any aggressive designs.

Speaking exclusively to Dunya News, Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry stated that Pakistan reserves the right to defend itself. He said Pakistan wants terrorism to be eradicated from the region and seeks stability in the area.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has strongly condemned cowardly attack by Afghan Taliban regime on the Pak-Afghan border.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, while paying tribute to the Pakistani forces for their prompt and decisive response to the Khawarij on the Afghan border, said, “Salute to the Pakistani army, who gave a decisive response to the enemy in the blink of an eye.”

Maryam Nawaz said that the Khawarij, their handlers and supporters have been humiliated before and will continue to be humiliated.
 

Five people, including three women, were injured when mortar shells fell in Bajaur.

 In a statement posted on social media platform X, the ministry said that the Afghan Taliban “miscalculated” by initiating unprovoked firing at several locations along the border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the statement, Pakistan’s security forces responded swiftly and effectively to the escalation.

Taliban regime forces were being given a “strong” and “punitive” response in the sectors of Chitral, Khyber District, Mohmand District, Kurram District, and Bajaur District.

“Taliban regime forces are being delivered punishment” in these sectors, the ministry said, adding that early reports indicate heavy casualties on the Afghan side.

Multiple check posts and military equipment were reportedly destroyed during the exchange. Fresh reports suggest at least 72 Afghan Taliban forces members have been killed in the Pakistani response to the agression.

Reaffirming its stance, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said that Pakistan would take all necessary measures to safeguard its territorial integrity and ensure the safety and security of its citizens.

Pakistan retaliates against unprovoked firing from Afghan regime in Torkham, Tirah border areas

Earlier in the day, the security forces killed 10 terrorists during a follow-up sanitisation operation in Zhob district of Balochistan, the military’s media wing said.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was launched after an intelligence-based raid conducted a day earlier in the same district, during which eight militants were neutralised.

The military said the latest action targeted militants described as belonging to the group Fitna al Khwarij.

During the sweep, security forces tracked suspected fighters across multiple routes and engaged their positions in a gun battle.

“After an ensuing fire exchange, ten Indian-sponsored Khwarij were sent to hell,” the ISPR statement said.
