KOHAT (Dunya News) - Five police personnel, including DSP Asad Mahmood Khan, were killed when terrorists attacked a police van in the Shakardara area on the outskirts of Kohat, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, on Tuesday.
According to police officials, the attack occurred while a team led by DSP Asad Mahmood Khan was transporting detainees for investigation. Militants opened sudden and indiscriminate fire on the vehicle.
Those killed in the attack included DSP Asad Mahmood Khan, Inspector Anar Gul Khan, the DSP’s driver, the DSP’s reader Wahab Gul, Constable Mudassar, and police official Syed Amir Abbas, son of Syed Murtaza. Two detainees, Yousaf Khan, son of Yaqoob Gul, and Samiullah, son of Muhammad Anwar, also lost their lives.
Three officers – Zahoor Khan, Aqab Hussain, and Mohib Rehman – sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Following the attack, a large contingent of Kohat police was deployed to secure the area and carry out search operations.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the incident and took notice of the killing of the DSP and his team. He called the attack “extremely tragic” and vowed that the sacrifices of the martyrs would not go in vain.
The chief minister emphasized that the K-P Police form the first line of defence against terrorism, and their sacrifices are unforgettable. He assured full support and solidarity with the families of the deceased and prayed for their patience and strength. Afridi also directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured and prayed for their swift recovery.
The incident follows another attack on Monday, in which three Federal Constabulary (FC) personnel were killed and several others injured in a series of coordinated assaults. Militants belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), identified by officials as Fitna al-Khawarij, carried out a drone strike on an FC fort near Dargah Shaheedan in the Bahadar Khel area.
As the injured were being transported to the hospital, terrorists launched a second assault on the ambulances, setting the vehicles on fire. Three FC personnel were martyred in the attack, while five others, including a Rescue 1122 official, were injured and shifted to Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital in Bannu.
