WASHINGTON (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reached the US capital on a three-day visit to attend the inaugural session of the Gaza Board of Peace scheduled for Thursday (today).
According to Ministry of Foreign Affaris statment, the prime minister is on an official visit to the United States from February 18 to 20. The prime minister is scheduled to participate in a session of the board on February 19, an initiative under the leadership of President Donald Trump.
"In addition to attending the inaugural session of the BOP, the Prime Minister will also engage with senior US leadership, as well as his counterparts attending the meeting. The occasion will provide an opportunity for discussions on bilateral matters, as well as global issues of mutual concern," added the statement.
The Board of Peace meeting is said to focus on the rehabilitation of the war-devastated Gaza and other related matters.
The BoP, formed by President Trump, has garnered support from several key Muslim countries, including Pakistan, as well as a number of non-Muslim states.
Meanwhile, sources indicated that Muslim countries are expected to contribute up to $5 billion in funding for the rehabilitation and the reconstruction of Gaza.
The summit will focus on three key objectives: strengthening and consolidating the ceasefire in Gaza, mobilising financial commitments for the BoP and shaping the structure of a proposed global forum envisioned by President Trump as a more effective mechanism for conflict resolution than existing international platforms.
The group is scheduled to meet in Washington on Thursday for the first time since it was established in January, to discuss reconstruction plans for Gaza
Participants are also expected to deliberate on the formation of an International Stabilisation Force (ISF) for Gaza to ensure security.
The summit is being viewed as a significant diplomatic initiative, bringing together world leaders to discuss coordinated efforts for peacebuilding and long-term regional stability.
However, the board’s proceedings, agenda, and expected practical outcomes are being handled with strict confidentiality, and no clear or official position has been made public.
