Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the successful conduct of general elections
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with Tarique Rahman, head of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), and extended his heartfelt congratulations on his party’s electoral success, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
In an official statement, the prime minister also congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the successful conduct of the general elections and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
According to the statement, both leaders discussed matters of mutual interest as well as regional peace and development.
They also paid tribute to Begum Khaleda Zia for her services to Pakistan–Bangladesh relations.

The leaders agreed to remain in close contact and work together for public welfare.
The statement added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has extended an invitation to Rahman for an early visit to Pakistan.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Election Commission announced the results of the parliamentary elections held on Thursday, in which the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured a two-thirds majority.
Official results released by the Election Commission show that out of 299 seats, the BNP won 212, establishing a clear lead, while Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the second-largest party with 77 seats.
