PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Local government representatives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have announced to take to streets on February 11 against the continued exploitation local government system in the province.

The protest sit-in will be organised under the banner of the Local Councils Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and will be held at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Chowk in Peshawar.

Mayor of Peshawar, Zubair Ali, said that the February 11 sit-in would prove to be historic. He claimed that local governments in the province have been paralysed for the past four years, adding that mayors as well as tehsil and village council chairmen will participate in large numbers. He alleged that amendments to the Local Government Act were made under a well-thought-out plan.

The mayor said that the absence of powers and development funds has led to an increase in public problems, adding that despite limited resources, local government representatives continue to serve the people.

Meanwhile, JUI district Peshawar has also announced full participation in the February 11 protest. The decision to hold the sit-in was taken during a meeting held at Mufti Mahmood Centre a day earlier.
