Nine members of a family died after an avalanche hit Chitral’s Seregal area, while one child survived. Rescue efforts continue in snow-hit Tirah Valley.
CHITRAL (Dunya News) – At least nine people were killed when an avalanche struck the remote area of Seregal, Damil Arandu in Chitral, officials said on Friday.
According to Deputy Commissioner Chitral Rao Hashim, the avalanche buried 10 members of the same family under snow and debris, resulting in multiple casualties.
Rescue teams recovered the bodies of nine victims from the rubble, while one child was pulled out alive and shifted for medical care. The deceased were later transported to the Chitral Wardaap Drosh area, the deputy commissioner added.
Meanwhile, rescue operations are continuing in Tirah Valley of Khyber district, where internally displaced persons (IDPs) stranded due to recent heavy snowfall are being evacuated to safer locations.
