Dense fog blankets Lahore, flights disrupted as temperatures drop

LAHORE (Web Desk) - Dense fog and thick cloud cover continue to envelop Lahore and several other cities of Punjab, with temperatures dropping as low as three degrees Celsius.

Due to the heavy fog, the sun has failed to appear in its full intensity, further increasing the severity of the cold. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Lahore was recorded at five degrees Celsius, while the maximum reached 14 degrees Celsius.

However, in some areas, the mercury dipped to as low as three degrees Celsius. The department added that there is no chance of rain over the next 24 hours, and the weather is expected to remain dry and cold.

Meanwhile, fog has severely disrupted flight operations in Lahore. The Allama Iqbal International Airport faced major disturbances as thick fog threw the flight schedule into disarray. Airport sources reported that 22 domestic and international flights were affected.

Sources said that flights to and from Dubai, Jeddah, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Istanbul, Doha, Karachi, and Sharjah were delayed by two to five hours due to poor weather conditions. Visibility at the airport dropped to as low as 50 meters.

Despite the availability of fog landing systems, some airlines chose not to operate their flights. Saudi Airlines, Etihad, Airblue, PIA, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, and several other local and international carriers were among those affected.

PIA and other airlines have advised passengers to check the latest flight updates before heading to the airport.
