PESHAWAR (Amir Jameel) - In 2025, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly witnessed a year of persistent delays, quorum issues, and prolonged debates, with sessions rarely starting on time.

Official records indicate that the KP provincial assembly held a total of four sessions during the year. Over these sessions, 31 bills were presented in the house, out of which 26 were successfully passed, while five bills could only be introduced and not finalized.

Amendments were proposed to 20 legislations, including the Local Government Amendment Bill, Finance Bill, KP Ease of Doing Business Bill, KP Legal Aid Amendment Bill, and Agricultural Income Tax Bill. The assembly also approved 61 resolutions during the year, while debates on points of objection were held on eight occasions. Eleven sessions were postponed due to the failure to meet quorum requirements.

The assembly also approved the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2025-26. Notably, the province hosted its first-ever peace jirga, and detailed discussions on law and order persisted for over six months.

Political analysts pointed out that while the assembly achieved significant legislative milestones, the frequent delays, quorum challenges, and extended debates cast a shadow on its overall performance.
