ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan and Indonesia enjoy a 75-year-long relationship that has stood the test of time, adding that bilateral ties will continue to grow stronger.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, the Prime Minister welcomed him to Pakistan, noting that this is the first visit by any Indonesian president in seven years. He praised President Prabowo as a wise and distinguished leader.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said that today’s talks were highly positive and constructive, covering cooperation in medical sciences, healthcare, vocational training, and balancing bilateral trade. Both sides agreed on sending Pakistani doctors, medical professors, and experts to Indonesia.

He highlighted that Pakistan and Indonesia have a 75-year history of friendship, one that has remained steadfast through every challenge. He recalled Indonesia’s solidarity with Pakistan during times of conflict and condemned Israel’s violations of the ceasefire in Gaza. The PM said the Indonesian president’s visit will elevate bilateral relations to new heights.

JF-17 salute an honour, says Indonesian president

President Prabowo Subianto thanked Pakistan for the warm welcome and hospitality, saying that receiving a salute from JF-17 fighter jets in Pakistani airspace was a great honour. He said both countries exchanged several agreements and MoUs to enhance cooperation.

He emphasized the historic nature of Pakistan-Indonesia relations and welcomed Pakistan’s support in the health sector. He added that cooperation will be expanded in education, trade, agriculture, and technology. The Indonesian president said both countries share a joint stance on Gaza and invited PM Shehbaz Sharif to visit Indonesia.

Seven agreements and MoUs exchanged

Earlier, Pakistan and Indonesia signed seven agreements and memorandums of understanding to expand cooperation across various sectors.

In a ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s House, the two leaders witnessed the signing of agreements related to higher education cooperation, Indonesian Aid scholarships for Pakistani students, SME development, preservation of historical archives, drug-trafficking prevention, halal trade and certification, and collaboration in the health sector.
