QUETTA (Dunya News): All 23 environmental samples collected in Balochistan have tested negative for poliovirus, marking progress in the province’s efforts to eradicate the disease.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar expressed satisfaction with the ongoing anti-polio measures and directed authorities to maintain their efforts.

Bugti paid tribute to the personnel who lost their lives during the national campaign against polio, saying the government would continue taking concrete measures to eliminate the disease.

Kakar said the negative results of all environmental samples reflected three years of sustained efforts and round-the-clock work. He attributed the progress to the continuity of the provincial government’s reform agenda and policies.

He also praised the joint efforts of the health department, polio workers and parents, noting that vaccination teams had continued reaching children despite security threats, difficult terrain, extreme weather conditions and a lack of basic facilities.

The provincial health minister reaffirmed the government’s support for polio workers and acknowledged their services and sacrifices. He said the authorities would continue working to sustain the progress achieved towards eradicating polio in Balochistan.
