(Web Desk) - Pakistani actor and producer Fahad Mustafa has urged the Punjab government to review and extend current operating hours for cinemas and malls, saying existing restrictions are negatively affecting newly released films and reducing audience turnout.
In a letter addressed to Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and shared on Instagram, Mustafa noted that most cinemas operate within shopping malls and are therefore directly impacted by the government’s early closing policy introduced under austerity measures.
He said the limitations were hurting box office performance at a time when new films rely heavily on strong early audience engagement. A modest extension in operating hours, he argued, could help improve ticket sales, support cinema revenues, and benefit jobs linked to the entertainment and hospitality sectors.
Mustafa further stated that extended timings would also provide greater convenience for viewers, many of whom are only able to attend screenings later in the evening.
“The early closure is affecting recently released films that are relying on this period to reach audiences,” he wrote in his appeal.
The actor also acknowledged the Punjab government’s support for the local film industry, including initiatives such as Film City, and said such measures have been encouraging for filmmakers and industry professionals.
He requested the authorities to consider a limited relaxation in operating hours, saying it would be welcomed by filmmakers, cinema operators, and audiences alike.
