(Web Desk) - Pakistani journalist, anchorperson, and writer of the hit drama Case No. 9, Shahzeb Khanzada, has revealed the real-life inspirations behind the show’s characters and has also announced his next project, Case No. 10.
In a recent interview, Shahzeb Khanzada spoke openly about the true stories and experiences that shaped Case No. 9. He shared that the Hindu characters Rohit and Manisha were inspired by one of his close Hindu friends. According to him, the portrayal aimed to highlight minority representation in Pakistan.
Khanzada said that his personal experience with minorities, especially in Sindh, has often been different from the general perception. He noted that when minority rights were discussed on his TV program, the level of gratitude shown by minority community members was both surprising and concerning, reflecting how serious the issue truly is.
He further revealed that Rohit is inspired by a member of his own team, Manisha by Rohit’s wife, while characters Shahbaz and Aroosa were also drawn from people working with him. Due to difficulty in choosing names, Khanzada said he used real-life names, including the name of Rohit and Manisha’s son, Vikas. His main objective, he said, was to authentically portray minority lives on screen.
Clarifying whether Case No. 9 was based on a single true incident, Shahzeb explained that the drama was not inspired by one specific case. However, several scenes were drawn from real events, such as powerful individuals pressuring victims through lawyers. He added that the investigative style of Inspector Shafiq was also based on reality, though the actual events were far harsher than what was shown on television.
Following the immense success of Case No. 9, Shahzeb Khanzada confirmed that he has completed writing his new murder mystery drama titled Case No. 10. While the airing date has not yet been announced, he said the overwhelming response to Case No. 9 motivated him to immediately begin work on the next project.
