DHAKA (Dunya News) – Bangladesh has reiterated its refusal to play T20 World Cup matches in India, escalating tensions ahead of the global tournament.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to shift the league stage matches to Sri Lanka, citing security concerns for the team in India.

Officials from the BCB emphasised that the safety of players remains the top priority. In addition to the relocation request, Bangladesh has also proposed a swap of groups with Ireland to avoid playing in India. The ICC will now decide whether Bangladesh will participate in the matches on Indian soil.

ICC response

An ICC delegation, including Andrew Apehgrew, visited Bangladesh to hold discussions, while fellow official Guruvo Sixina joined the meeting online due to visa delays. The discussions are part of the ICC’s efforts to resolve the impasse ahead of the tournament.

The BCB’s firm stance follows the earlier removal of Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL. Following that decision, Bangladesh had refused to commit to playing in India for the T20 World Cup.
