Summary The suspension has also been extended to commercial connections, including those for tandoors and hotels
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has extended its ban on new domestic gas connections indefinitely amid growing gas shortages and supply disruptions, sources said on Sunday.
According to sources, the suspension has also been extended to commercial connections, including those for tandoors and hotels, from the current month.
Thousands of consumers remain without gas connections despite having paid urgent processing fees, sources added.
They said the supply of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) had been disrupted, while the gas shortfall in the existing distribution system had also increased.
With the onset of winter, gas demand has surged several times, creating additional difficulties in maintaining supplies even to existing domestic consumers.
Despite the growing demand, SNGPL has decided to continue the suspension of new domestic connections for an indefinite period.
Gas company officials said the ban had been imposed by the Petroleum Ministry, adding that the restoration of new connections was likely only after the Iran-US conflict comes to an end.
