Jobless Greek gunman takes hostages at factory

The man laid off by a waste management company took at least two other people hostage at gunpoint, local police said.The injured men -- the company owner and another employee -- were taken to hospital. A company spokeswoman said their injuries were not life-threatening.The two hostages were company drivers, a police source told AFP.A hostage situation is in progress at a plastics factory in the Komotini industrial park by an armed person who earlier injured two people, the police said in a statement.The area has been surrounded and police negotiators are on the scene, they added.The Hellenic Environmental Systems Industry company in Komotini, near the Greek-Turkish border, recently dismissed around half of its 300 employees, the police source said.Greece is in the grip of a financial crisis and unemployment stands at over a million people.The Greek economy is not expected to limp back into growth before 2013.--AFP
