Summary Iran has executed another member of the armed group Ansar al-Furqan, amid a reported rise in executions following months of regional conflict.

TEHRAN (Dunya News) – Iran has executed another convicted prisoner accused of links to an anti-government armed organisation, according to the country’s judiciary, as authorities continue an intensified crackdown on militant groups and security-related offences.

State-affiliated judicial authorities announced that the execution was carried out early on Tuesday morning in the capital, Tehran. The accused, identified as Abdol Jalil Shahbakhsh, was alleged to have been associated with the militant organisation Ansar al-Furqan, which Iranian authorities classify as a terrorist group.

According to reports published on the Iranian judiciary’s official website, Shahbakhsh had been convicted over involvement in activities linked to attacks on government security forces. Officials stated that the accused had been arrested during counterterrorism operations in eastern Iran, an area that has witnessed repeated clashes involving militant factions and security personnel in recent years.

Iranian authorities claim that Ansar al-Furqan is an armed insurgent organisation seeking to overthrow the government and destabilise state institutions. The group has been accused of carrying out attacks against military personnel, police officers and other state targets over several years, particularly in regions close to the country’s southeastern borders.

Judicial authorities further alleged that Shahbakhsh had travelled to a neighbouring country around six years ago to receive military-style training. Multiple legal proceedings were conducted against him in various courts before the death sentence was ultimately upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court.

The judiciary stated that the execution was implemented after all legal stages had been completed. Officials also maintained that the accused had been granted full legal rights throughout the judicial process and that all legal requirements had been observed before the sentence was carried out.

Iran has frequently defended its use of capital punishment in cases involving armed groups, espionage, terrorism and attacks against state security forces. Human rights organisations, however, have repeatedly criticised the country’s execution policies, particularly in politically sensitive and security-related cases.

Security operations targeting militant organisations continue across several Iranian provinces, with authorities insisting that such measures are necessary to maintain national stability and prevent attacks on security personnel and civilians.
