Heavy flood affects hundreds in Costa Rica

Hundreds of residents have been affected by flooding in Costa Rica after several rivers burst their banks in the eastern region of Sarapiqui on Wednesday.Several towns in Sarapiqui remained underwater late on Wednesday, and according to the National Emergency Commission (CNE) 1,052 residents had to be evacuated from their homes and taken to temporary shelters set up in local schools and churches.CNE also reported one person died after the vehicle they were traveling in slid down a hill on a flooded highway.The National Meteorology Institute (IMN) predicted rain until Thursday.
