Summary Thousands of settlement rally in Jordan valley to protest against Israels settlement policy.

Thousands of Palestinian rallied near the Israeli border on Friday (November 25), to protest against Israels settlement policy in Arab East Jerusalem.Leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood movement spearheaded the protest, which took place in the town of Sweime in the Jordan Valley. Activists called for the liberation of Jerusalem, home to al Aqsa mosque, the second holiest site for Muslims after Mecca. One activist said that previous Middle East peace treaties were impeding the Palestinian cause. These people support the Palestinian cause, although leaders, until now, are reluctant to adopt an honest stance in support of the Palestinian cause. The Camp David and Wadi Araba (Israel-Jordan) peace treaties, and other treaties, shackle these people. The people must be freed from these residual agreements and treaties that shackle them and we must return to Palestine, said university professor Aref Abu Eid.Jordan is the second and last Arab country to sign a peace accord with Israel after Egypt, although other Arab countries, including Qatar and Morocco, enjoy official commercial ties with Tel Aviv.Israel seized East Jerusalem, including the Old City, in the 1967 Middle East war. It later annexed the area and surrounding West Bank villages, creating a Jerusalem municipality that it declared the united and eternal capital of Israel.Palestinians want East Jerusalem as the capital of a future state and world powers have not recognised Israels annexation.
